A little bit about Me, my Yard and Cellar Renovation….
A very late happy new year to you all – January has come and gone in the blink of the eye although when we’re immersed in January, it seems never-ending with very short days and very long nights!
The days are getting longer and we know that Spring is around the corner which is such a comforting thought.
Spring is the best time of year when everything begins to come back to life… I get excited to see the small buds beginning to appear on the various plants in my garden. I say garden but it’s more of a front yard I’ve planters and even have a fir tree that sits and dominates part of my small space.
When I renovated my cellar into a kitchen/dining area a few years ago we had to dig out into my front yard space to allow for windows to give access to as much natural light I could get, bearing in mind that we were working in an area below ground level…. So that reduced the space I had outside.
Before the renovations, my cellar was dark, dank and not fit of any sort of purpose – I toyed with the idea of taking the tree out and giving it to a family member to replant in their garden. The branches were obstructing the lower trunk and so encroaching on the limited space I had, so I decided to remove the lower branches a good 3-4 feet so creating so much more space without losing the tree.
In the first lockdown, I got into doing diamond art…. No, not using ‘diamonds’ but working with very small pieces of fine-cut plastic which creates a diamond effect whereupon you place these pieces onto a sticky parchment grid which has a design already printed and a colour chat…. and when the light hits the artwork, it shimmers like a diamond… I digress but what I am getting to is that I had this piece framed and sealed to make it waterproof and have hung this in my yard and it looks fab….
Don’t forget that you can add any sort of artwork in your outdoor space but if it requires a frame ensure that this is weatherproofed and sealed
Your outdoor space, whatever size needs to be an extension of your home – you don’t have to have huge spaces to make your garden/yard work – you need time, creativity and love.
